What happens in a boiler service
A proper service is more than a quick look and a sticker on the case. We work through the manufacturer's checklist for your model, which typically covers:
- Flue gas analysis with a calibrated analyser, to check the boiler is burning cleanly and safely
- Burner, heat exchanger and condensate trap inspected, and cleaned where needed
- Gas pressure and gas rate checked at the boiler
- The flue checked for condition, clearances and leaks
- Seals, electrics and safety devices tested
- System pressure and expansion vessel checked
- The service record and Benchmark logbook filled in, which your guarantee relies on
Why service every year?
Your guarantee depends on it
Most manufacturers need a yearly service by a Gas Safe engineer to keep the guarantee valid. Miss one and a repair that should have been free might not be.
It's a safety check
Servicing picks up poor combustion and flue problems early. Those are the faults that lead to carbon monoxide risk.
It keeps running costs down
A clean burner and correct gas rate mean the boiler isn't wasting gas to give you the same heat.
Small faults stay small
A weeping valve spotted in October costs far less than a breakdown on the coldest night in January.
Boiler repairs
If your boiler is showing a fault code, losing pressure, making odd noises or just won't fire, call or WhatsApp Matt with the make, model and any code on the display. Photos help too.
If a repair doesn't make sense, we'll tell you. Spending a few hundred pounds on a fifteen-year-old boiler that's likely to fail again soon isn't good value. When a repair is the right answer, we'll fix it properly.
Gas fires, cookers and water heaters
Matt's Gas Safe registration covers gas fires, cookers, hobs, range cookers and water heaters as well as boilers, so we can check those on the same visit.
Landlords
If you rent out a property, we can carry out the annual landlord gas safety check at the same time as the boiler service. One visit, one less thing to arrange with your tenants.
